(PRESS RELEASE) – The Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations wishes to inform that due to the extenuating circumstances posed by COVID-19, the deadline for the submission of applications for the Government of the Republic of Cuba Saint Lucia bi- lateral scholarship offer, has been extended to Tuesday, April 28, 2020, for persons desirous of pursuing studies at the Bachelor’s and Postgraduate levels, for the academic year 2020/2021.
Studies are tenable at Universities in the Republic of Cuba, commencing August 2020.
Scholarships are as follows:
(i) UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES
Students who have not completed both Units I and II of CAPE in the required subject areas are not eligible for this award.
UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES IN MEDICINE
To be eligible for the undergraduate studies, applicants must:
a) be a citizen of Saint Lucia of less than 25 years; b) be a new student entering year one; c) be in good physical and mental condition; d) be in possession of a valid Certificate of Character; e) have a minimum of two passes at A’ Level examinations or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Mathematics; OR possess passes in units one and two of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) with passes at Grade I, II or III in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Mathematics; with a minimum of five (5) passes at CSEC General Level [Grade I, II, and III] including Mathematics and English Language and subjects relevant to the area of study; and f) be from a low income household/family (Financial Needs Form must be completed).
UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES IN HEALTH TECHNOLOGY
Careers:
• Nursing
• Clinical Bio-analysis
• Hygiene and Epidemiology
• Imaging and Medical Radio Physics
• Speech and Audiology Disorders
• Nutrition
• Optics and Optometry
• Heath Rehabilitation
• Health Information Systems
To be eligible for selection for the undergraduate studies in Health Technology, applicants must:
a) be a citizen of Saint Lucia of less than 25 years; b) be a new student entering year one; c) be in good physical and mental condition; d) be in possession of a valid Certificate of Character; e) have a minimum of two passes at A’ Level examinations or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Mathematics; OR possess passes in units one and two of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) with passes at Grade I, II or III in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Mathematics; OR possess an Associate Degree in the related area; with a minimum of five (5) passes at CSEC General Level [Grade I, II, and III] including Mathematics and English Language and subjects relevant to the area of study; and f) be from a low income household/family (Financial Needs Form must be completed).
UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES IN COMPUTER SCIENCE
To be eligible for selection for the undergraduate studies in Computer Science, applicants must:
a) be a citizen of Saint Lucia of less than 25 years; b) be a new student entering year one; c) be in good physical and mental condition; d) be in possession of a valid Certificate of Character; e) possess an Associate Degree in Computer Systems Engineering or related area; with a minimum of five (5) passes at CSEC General Level [Grade I, II, and III] including Mathematics and English Language and subjects relevant to the area of study; and f) be from a low income household/family (Financial Needs Form must be completed).
(II) POSTGRADUATE STUDIES IN MEDICINE
To be eligible for selection for Post Graduate Medicine Studies, applicants must:
a) be a graduate of the Latin American School of Medicine in Cuba; b) be in good physical and mental health; c) be in possession of a valid Certificate of Character; d) apply for an area of study from among those listed below:
• Internal Medicine;
• Pediatrics;
• Gynecology and Obstetrics;
• General Surgery; or
• Hygiene and Epidemiology.
There is no age limit for post-graduate studies

• Verified copies of Academic, Professional and Technical Certificates (Verified by the Dept. of Education). Please note that certificates can be forwarded without verifying. Verification will be done at later date.
• Transcripts of completed programmes from last educational institution. Students’ copies can be forwarded. Official transcripts from SALCC and Secondary School of completed programmes can be emailed from the institution directly to hrd@education.gov.lc or bernce.marcellin@education.gov.lc and hard copies forwarded to:
