2017-04-03-15_25_24-vieux-fort-comprehensive-secondary-school-wins-big-at-national-science-fair-goPRESS RELEASE – The Principal and staff of the Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary School acknowledge the outstanding work presented by our students at this year’s Science Fair which was hosted by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development under the theme, Science and Technology: the Catalyst for a Sustainable Future.

A major aim of this event was to stimulate creative, analytical and inventive capacities of students in the areas of Science and Technology and, to reflect this, students were challenged to come up with innovative and original projects with the potential to positively impact their learning environment.

We are therefore proud to recognize the ingenious contributions of the students of Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary School who walked away with the top awards for the Tertiary and Upper Secondary categories at both the zonal and national fairs. At the zonal competition, VFCSS participated with 14 projects,  placing First and Second overall with Integer Trailz and Pee to Power respectively.

Integer Trailz, a Math board game designed by students, also received the Most Innovative award. In the Secondary Category, VFCSS captured first and third with Integer Trailz and Waste to Watts. In the Tertiary Category, the school captured all the top awards with Green Farm in third, Sea Scrape in second and Pee to Power in first place.

A similar stellar showing was repeated at the National Science Fair which culminated Friday 31st March, 2017. VFCSS again captured all three awards in the Tertiary Category, and, in the Upper Secondary Category, Waste to Watts captured first place. The only project not awarded nationally was Integer Trailz. Interesting to note is that this was the most awarded project at the Zone Four Science Fair.

We also wish to recognize Hailey Boriel, Joel Pinel and Ana McGrath who gave an excellent account of themselves at both the Zonal and National Science Quiz competitions. At both events, the students walked away with the second place trophy.

We are especially proud of the outstanding work being done by our Science department. We say special thanks to Mr. Gabinus Biscette and his team of dedicated teachers, especially Mr. Patrianee Jawahill. We are equally proud of the students of Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary who consistently demonstrate high standards of excellence and a strong drive toward success. Through their innovative and practical projects, they have demonstrated that the future of St. Lucia is hopeful and so, to them, we say a heartfelt thank you.
