PRESS RELEASE – Over 200 students from nine schools around the island got the opportunity to enjoy a mind-blowing experience at the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival Arts Village, thanks to the generosity of the island’s premier telecommunications provider, Flow.
Flow sponsored the students’ trip to the Arts Village which was held at Choc and helped to give them a treat they will always remember.
The group was comprised of students from the Soufriere Secondary, Marigot Secondary, Dame Pearlete Primary, St. Mary’s College, St. Joseph’s Convent, Castries Comprehensive Secondary and three schools from the district of Choiseul. They were transported to the venue in style aboard Flow-branded buses, courtesy of Flow.
You could see the excitement in the youngsters’ faces as they disembarked from the busses and eagerly made their way to the Arts Village.
There they got the opportunity to view a gallery of artwork from some of St. Lucia’s leading visual artistes, including paintings and sculpture, as well as an amazing display of rustic furniture by wards of the Boys Training Centre. They also attended live spoken-word performances and got to mingle with the various poets and writers. The Arts Village also featured educational sessions on film and photography, all of which the students got the opportunity to attend and enjoy.
All in all it was a very satisfying and thrilling experience for the youths and they all said they enjoyed it and had a wonderful time.
“It was an absolute pleasure to assist in providing the students with the opportunity to attend the Arts Village,” said marketing representative Sidonie-John. “The arts are an intricate part of our daily lives. Success is often built on following a passion for creativity and innovation, which embodies all of our values and operations at Flow, so supporting the trip was an ideal initiative for us. We felt it was important for the students to have this experience as there must be a balance between academics and the arts. It also gave us the opportunity to provide them with a potentially life-changing experience and hopefully develop the next generation of creative thinkers and producers.”
