A Saint Lucian national will be graduating with top honours this July in Taiwan, after excelling in several areas of her studies and having took part in several extracurricular activities.

Dr. Bettie Jn Baptiste has been studying in Taiwan for the past two years on a scholarship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Taiwan through the Taiwanese embassy in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The scholarship is officially named the Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship.

Jn Baptiste told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that she is currently reading for her master’s degree in Public Health.

“I’m following an epidemiology track. My thesis is looking at the outcome of neonates that have been admitted to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I am hoping that with this study, we can make proper evidence based policy decisions to govern the NICU and have better neonatal outcome.”

Jn Baptiste has volunteered her time to many causes at the Taipei Medical University, and also took part in and won an inter-school talent competition by singing a song in Mandarin.

On Friday, she was one of the students awarded at a farewell party for all recipients of that scholarship programme who will be graduating this year, for being an outstanding student during her time of study.

In addition to being awarded a certificate for outstanding performance by the Tapei Medical University, she is also going to be the English-speaking Valedictorian at graduation.

Jn Baptiste is currently the international Students’ Association President at the university.
