Education Minister Dr. Robert Lewis has confirmed that the leaky roof video in circulation on social media was taken at the Dennery Infant School.
The minister admits that there have been some issues at that particular school and the ministry had informed the relevant department to assess the situation.
Coincidentally, Dr. Lewis said that a contract was signed today for rebuilding the school next to the police station, something that has been in the pipeline for some time.
However, the Castries South MP strongly believes that the secret video taping was done to place bad name on the Ministry of Education and to gain “political mileage.”
Dr. Lewis said he was first informed about the video by Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Jade Brown, and he later spoke with the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Marcus Edward about the issue.
He said while everyone was under the impression that it was the Dennery Primary School, he had many doubts, because he knew that some $1.2 million was recently spent to refurbish the school.
While the CEO had denied claims that the leakage was at the Dennery Primary School, he did say, however, that he had received complaints from that school in relation to leaks.
Edward said the Ministry of Infrastructure was informed and the building was inspected. A team of engineers have been looking at a long term solution to address the issue.
One of the videos show school children dressed in blue uniforms, sitting at their desk, while a teacher is speaking in the background to them, and a huge hole in a zinc roof leaking.
