PRESS RELEASE – The formal opening of “The LUCELEC Electronics Workshop” will take place at the Division of Technical Education and Management Studies, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, on Thursday, 27th August 2015 at 10:30a.m.
In September 2010, The Board of Directors of the LUCELEC Trust Company Inc. approved a donation of Three Hundred Thousand EC Dollars (EC$300,000) toward the redesign and refurbishment of Electronics Workshop at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. As a result, the College has been able to obtain new equipment which will:
-facilitate the introduction of specialist courses in Electronics and Electrical technology;
-train current technology students and retrain practicing individuals in a wider range of Electronic and Electrical technology courses;
-provide an environment more conducive to teaching and learning;
-achieve competency based assessments; and
-assist students to achieve matriculation requirements with other institutions of higher learning.
“The LUCELEC Electronics Workshop” will honour the contribution of Mr. Bernard C. Theobalds (former Managing Director of LUCELEC) and the late Mr. Joel Huggins (former Member of the LUCELEC Board of Directors) to the development of the electric utility industry on a national and regional level.
These two gentlemen served with distinction for many years. It is hoped that their commitment to excellence will inspire those who will learn at this workshop.
