PRESS RELEASE – On Friday 14th August 2015, a delegation comprising officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport and the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour conducted an appraisal mission to assess the readiness of the new school block for the Canaries infant School.

It should be recalled that during the passage of the Christmas Eve Trough of 2013, the wooden structure more commonly referred to as the Annex was destroyed.

In its place, a new three (3) classroom block unit was built. This new block will contain two classrooms and an IT resource room to accommodate a class of 25 children.

The new building was elevated by ten (10) feet, and the open floor downstairs can be used for Assemblies and other gatherings on the School compound.

The Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport Mr. Wenn Gabriel expressed satisfaction that the building has been completed to the desired standards of both Ministries.

He further noted that the contractor has completed the building on time and within budget. He also expressed satisfaction that when the new school year reopens in September, the Students of Canaries would be coming into new built classrooms.

The Principal of the Canaries Infant School Ms. Simona Jn. Baptise expressed her satisfaction, noting that she and the students now can feel safe from floods.

She noted that the space is conducive and she and her teachers will make good use of the new space provided.

The new school block was constructed by Blue Print Construction at a cost of just over $700,000.00. The official handing over ceremony is slated to take place before the reopening of School in September.
