PRESS RELEASE – Twenty-five hotel and tourism workers employed within eight branches of the National Workers Union (NWU) will each receive a $500 bursary from the NWU for their children.
This amount will be handed out to members of the union’s tourism-related branches who are currently financial members with a child entering secondary school for the first time in September 2015.
The payout comes from the NWU’s Education Fund to which hotel workers have made a significant contribution.
The NWU is of the firm opinion that, given the current economic situation with which workers have to grapple and the fact that the NWU has to struggle much harder now to maintain fringe benefits in existing industrial agreements, the organization must continue to think outside the box and create new avenues to assist its membership.
The 25 hotel workers and their children will meet at the St. Lucian by Rex Resorts at a brief ceremony on Monday August 3, 2015 at 10.00 a.m. with officials from the National Workers Union to receive the EC$500 bursary.
