Students of Bocage Secondary School are back in the classroom, after being sent home on Friday (June 12) due to water shortage experienced during the course of last week.

A teacher confirmed with St. Lucia News Online (SNO) on Monday (June 15) that classes are back to normal and is expected to remain that way, once the water situation does not get out of hand.

SNO was told on Friday last that the school had exhausted all its water resources and as such they were not be able to facilitate the students.

The school currently has six water tanks that cater for a population of about 450 students, but due to the water crises experienced, they were not been able to secure enough storage of water.

The water pressure has been relatively low, which is the main reason why the water tanks were not full to capacity. However, the school later received water and was able to clean its toilet facilities.

The Water and Sewage Company Limited (WASCO) has said that the water crisis can worsen, if the dry weather persists. The company also warned that rationing of water could intensify.

However, standpipes and water tanks have been placed in the worst affected communities.

WASCO also said that they have started to transport water to affected schools and hospitals.
