PRESS RELEASE - There is a very unique art gallery in KUROSHIO Town, KOCHI Prefecture, SHIKOKU Island in Japan. This special gallery cannot be found in any building, or exhibition hall. The name of the gallery is the ‘Seaside Gallery’ and it is found in a very unique place.
The concept of gallery is our beautiful beach can be our art gallery. And so, the ‘Seaside Gallery’ was created. Every year, the ‘Seaside Gallery’ organized several exhibitions by using the proud, natural beauty of the seashore and sea. Every year in May numerous T-shirts designed by children and adults are exhibited at their art gallery.
JOCV (Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer), Ms. Saki MORIGUCHI comes from TOKUSHIMA, where the same seaside gallery is located.
Ms. Moriguchi is a Music instructor assigned to Education Office District 1(Gros Islet) and she visits primary and secondary schools every day to organize Music classes. Recently she composed a school anthem for Bogius Primary. She is also an active member of the church choir in Babonneau.
This year JICA SHIKOKU Regional Office is collaborating with the Seaside Gallery to exhibit fifty T-shirts with “People’s Smile from all over the World”. Ms. Moriguchi’s photo is one of them.
We at JICA/JOCV St. Lucia will celebrate the JOCV (Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers) 20th anniversary in 2015. So we are glad to display the T-shirts as part of our 20th Anniversary celebrations, as a token of the friendship between St. Lucia and Japan.
The exhibition will be held at Grande Riviere Primary School on Tuesday, 16th June starting at nine o’clock in the morning.
The word for ‘flutter’ in Japanese is ‘Hira-hira’ and so the exhibition is called ‘Hira-Hira’ after the T-shirts that flutter in the breeze.
