PRESS RELEASE - This week, St. Lucia joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities worldwide in celebrating National Library and Information Week, a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, information centers, librarians, and information professionals.
This year’s theme is: Library and Information Services on the Move – Creating Unlimited Possibilities.
The theme reflects the influence of Saint Lucia’s library and information institutions.
Librarians and Information Professionals are change agents within their communities – transforming lives through innovative educational resources and forward-thinking programming.
They are doing their part to close the digital divide and level the playing field by providing free access to information and technologies that many in their communities would be hard pressed to find elsewhere.
Libraries and Information Institutions promote a feeling of equality and democracy by providing service to all regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic status.
Library and Information Professionals work with elected officials, small business owners, students, teachers, and the public at large to discover and meet the needs of their communities.
Whether through offering e-books and technology classes, materials for school lessons, programs for job seekers, historical research information, or archival personal documents, library and information professionals listen to the community they serve, and they respond.
This week is a time to celebrate the unlimited possibilities that these institutions create and support them as they progress into the future.
