PRESS RELEASE - Monroe College has organised two special Higher Education/Career Seminars for early in July directed at prospective Monroe College students and especially for those who are undecided about studying for one of the degree programmes offered at the Saint Lucia Campus.
Monroe College is an accredited American institution of higher learning and has grown to become one of New York’s leading colleges since its founding in 1933.
The St. Lucia Campus was opened in 2007, offering programmes in business management, criminal justice, hospitality management, information technology, public health, as well as special certificate and diploma programmes. The College also offers a full-time, face-to-face (three days a week) master’s degree in business management (MBA) with several specialisations.
The Higher Education/Career Seminars will be held on Thursday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Learning Resource Centre at Barnard Hill at 5 p.m. each day.
Director of Administration Neil Nichols says in a challenging economic environment many St. Lucians may be a bit hesitant to start or continue their higher education.
He added: “We want to assist these students by providing assurance and guidance as they make their decisions.”
Nichols advised that students should not put off starting their degree studies. “We want them to know they are not alone and they don’t have to cross this bridge alone as we have the resources at Monroe College to help them in this very important decision.”
On day one – July 3, 2014 – the focus will be on public health and hospitality management degrees; on day two – July 8th – on business management, criminal justice and information technology degrees. Information on scholarship will also be provided.
“What we will try to do is answer concerns mainly from students who are asking themselves: ‘What can I do with a degree in…’ and attempt to point students in the direction of planning ahead to securing the best job possible,” noted Dr. Sonia Alexander, director of Monroe’s Academic Office, St. Lucia Campus. “There is no question that a degree is a vital stepping stone for a successful future. That’s a given. But students may have doubt about their investment in higher education at this time and all we’re doing is showing them how to seek out new opportunities as they start their degrees.”
The seminars are open to all and are FREE. Both evenings will be about discovery and exploration about choosing a degree and making the connection to a career in the future.
