(SNO) – Some 300 students from seven divisions have graduated from the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, receiving degrees, certificates and diplomas.
Principal of the institution, Dr. Keith Nurse said it is on a path of competitiveness.
“All our programming going forward will be built on these three elements: sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship,” he told the graduating class. “This will be the core of everything we do.”
The said the concept is not revolutionary but the times call for it.
“Whether you are talking about climate change and the challenges associated with it or whether you are talking about the significant and rapid transformations in technology, whether it’s artificial intelligence, block chain, FINTECH, all of these are going to impact not only on the educational paradigm, it is also going to impact significantly on the world of work and everyday life,” he stated.
Education Minister Dr. Gale Rigobert said the college “poised for take off to new heights of excellence” and gateways to global careers.
“But for us to achieve this, we must quadruple our commitment to ensuring that Sir Arthur Lewis Community College exemplify the superlative unmatched intellectual ilk of the extraordinary academic and critical thinker after who it is named, Sir Arthur Lewis,” she stated.
Meanwhile valedictorian, Rayeem Augustine Joseph, told his fellow graduates to “let us forget fate and be wary of destiny.”
“Because fate is a thing that come involuntary to the complacent and unambitious,” he said. ‘We have the power to choose and and experiences here have equipped us with the necessary skill sets to say we are doing it.”
