PRESS RELEASE – The Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA) of the Pierrot Combined School has joined with the school’s principal, Mrs. Eugenie Paul-Moonie and the rest of the staff in a demonstration of ‘Love’ throughout the school and its neighbouring communities.
At the commencement of the new calendar year, Mrs. Paul-Moonie emphasized on the theme ‘I Love You’ to all her students, teachers and ancillary staff. The students who were especially unsuspecting of the theme, were expected to continue the message inside their homes and in their respective communities. Throughout the month of January and February, students were heard in chorus at their usual Monday general assembly echoing the words ‘I Love You’ to the workers at the school and to the residents who live in close proximity.
This the principal thought was an approach to reclaim friendly relationships at the school and by extension, the surrounding communities.
Thus, the school’s PTA captured the opportunity for an “I Love You’ campaign to turn a usual fundraising venture into something more meaningful. Like several other areas, the communities which surround the Pierrot Combined School have been plagued with myriad acts of crime, violence and abuse. The members of the PTA have embarked on a Fun/ Walk dubbed ‘A Walk for Love’ to help instill in residents and other patrons a sense of self-love and love for others.
The school’s ‘Walk for Love’ will take place on Wednesday March 1st, 2017 from 4:30pm. The meeting point is at the Pierrot Combined School and the route is to the George Odlum National Stadium, passed the Vieux-Fort Solid Waste Management Facility, then return to the school. Participants may wear either red or white attire in support of the theme and expected to register with a contribution of $10.00.
The funds collected will go towards school repairs and renovations. Refreshments will be served at the end of the walk and there are several prizes included. Prizes for 1st and 2nd place male and female, largest group of members registered, raffles, 1st place male and female under 18 years registered, etc. Winners will receive either hampers, gift certificates, free lunch or dinner, a relaxer hair treatment, beauty products among other prizes.
The PTA is asking for the public to turn out in huge numbers to support this activity. Special appeal to youth groups and organizations, clubs, other schools and business places to be part of this wonderful initiative. Depending on the success of the ‘Walk for Love’, it will become an annual activity on the school’s calendar.
